Who We Are

Ruttle & Rowe was founded by ourselves, Grace Rowe & Mat Ruttle. We met as actors on a production of The Railway Children and it’s been full steam ahead ever since…

An acting career comes with a level of uncertainly and inevitable gaps in employment which were often filled with stints in hospitality and particularly specialty coffee. Many flat white’s later with a combination of increased specialised training and with the communication skills that a career in performance had given us, we decided to start a business that would hopefully provide us with some stability in the future.

The opportunity to purchase our trusty coffee van came up in 2017 and we pitched up at Lea Bridge Station for the next few years. We dovetailed in to the events world both with the van and with an adaptable, indoor pop-up set up and our espresso martinis took the wedding scene by storm.

Then in 2021 we moved to the area of Walthamstow known as Chapel End and saw a perfect opportunity to take over an empty corner unit pitched perfectly on the corner of the beautiful, terraced streets. The cafe has grown in to a lively, neighbourhood hub attracting loyal locals and curious newcomers tempted by word of our own roast.

We continue to run our Victoria Road Cafe alongside the events, our roasting and wholesale operation and a pop up cafe at BIMM University in Fulham.
